Citizens Insurance recently announced that they will be lowering their liability limits to $100,000 for all new business risks effective May 1, 2012 and “ALL RENEWAL” June 1, 2012. The reduction in the limits may result in a potential gap between their limit and someone carrying a Personal Umbrella policy. Most typical Umbrella Policies require $300,000 liability for property. So if you are an insured with Citizens Insurance and you have a personal umbrella policy, you need to contact your agent immediately and take care of the “GAP”. Don’t be caught without the proper underlying limits as this could cost you $200,000 in the long run.
